UK Motorcycle Licence Categories

Before any full motorcycle test can be taken or booked, you must first have completed the Compulsory Basic Training Course (C.B.T.) and also have passed the motorcycle theory test.

Once you have completed the recommended amount of training that you require the process is very simple through ART.

Category A - Full Motorcycle Licence Courses

Who is this course for?

Riders over 24 years of age who feel ready to progress to a full motorcycle licence and want to ride larger cc motorcycles.
A completed Motorcycle Theory Test is required to book this course.

Course Price £800 - £1200
This is entirely dependent on your individual ability and experience.

Instructor support

Delivered with a max of 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

Training is typically four days when booked as a course. If additional time would benefit

What can I ride after this course?

Category A – unrestricted motorcycles (Aged 24+)

How do I progress next?

You can progress through licence categories as your experience grows.

This may include ‘progressive access’ where riders build experience over time before

upgrading.

Category A2 - Full Motorcycle Licence Courses

Who is this course for?

Riders over 19 years of age who feel ready to progress to a full motorcycle licence and want to ride larger cc motorcycles.
A completed Motorcycle Theory Test is required to book this course.

Category A1- Full Motorcycle Licence Courses

Who is this course for?

Riders over 17 years of age who feel ready to progress to a full motorcycle licence and want to get rid of the L-Plates and benefit from cheaper insurance, NOT having to take the CBT every two years, ride on motorways & take passengers!

A completed Motorcycle Theory Test is required to book this course.

Course Price £400 - £1000
This is entirely dependent on your individual ability and experience.
