Before Booking Any Full Motorcycle Licence Course
Motorcycle Theory Test
Who is this course for?
The Motorcycle Theory Test is suitable for all riders who plan to progress beyond a CBT
and obtain a full motorcycle licence. It is also highly beneficial for new riders or those
who only intend to complete a CBT but want to build stronger road knowledge and
confidence before riding independently.
Course overview
The Motorcycle Theory Test assesses your understanding of road rules, traffic signs,
hazard perception, and safe riding practices. While it is not legally required to complete a
CBT, passing the theory test is essential before moving on to any full motorcycle licence
training or tests.
For new riders, completing the theory test early can be extremely valuable. It provides a
solid foundation in the Highway Code and road awareness, helping you better understand
real-world road situations—particularly important if you haven’t yet ridden on the road
independently.
Course length
The theory test itself1 hour, including multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test.
How to prepare
We strongly recommend revising the Highway Code and using official DVSA revision
materials or apps to practise both the multiple-choice and hazard perception sections.
Even if you’re only planning to complete a CBT, this preparation will significantly improve
your understanding of the road and increase your confidence when riding.
Why it’s worth doing early
Completing your Motorcycle Theory Test early gives you better road awareness, safer
decision-making skills, and a smoother transition into practical training. Many riders find it makes their CBT and on-road riding feel more relaxed and easier to manage.
